| The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) is designed to prepare the next generation of leaders for Ireland , North and South. It does this by bringing together Ireland 's most promising students for a unique six-month team development experience and by placing them in some of Washington 's most prestigious internships. WIP begins with an Orientation Weekend on April 11 th 2008 and closes with a Graduation Ceremony on September 19 th 2008. The full-time element of the Program comprises of an eight-week internship in Washington DC during which participants gain exposure to the U.S. political system as well as an immersion in American culture by living with local host families. Students are placed in offices representing government, business, non-profit and media organizations. Amongst last year's placements were Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barack Obama, the World Bank and Channel 8 News. At the end of their internship, participants go home with enhanced professional and interpersonal skills as well as a new confidence in their own leadership abilities. WIP has been in operation since 1995 and to date more than 350 young adults have graduated with many moving into important careers in politics, business, media and education. As they move into leadership roles, they retain their connection with the Program and continue to give back to their local communities through an active Alumni Association. The Tutoring in Schools programme is open to all students in all faculties. Although applications from students in any year group (including postgraduate) will be considered, the programme is mainly targeted at students in their second year. Mrs. Elaine Wilson, Tutoring in Schools Co-ordinator said: “The programme is an excellent way for students to improve their interpersonal and communication skills and thereby their employability. The programme is traditionally popular with students wishing to complete a PGCE and undertake a career in teaching, although some students will wish to participate simply to improve their personal skills.” Application forms, further details of the programme and a list of available projects can be obtained from: The Tutoring in Schools webpage, www.ulster.ac.uk/teachlearn/access/tis For further information, please contact: Mrs. Elaine Wilson, Tutoring in Schools Co-ordinator, Room J402, University of Ulster, Cromore Road, Coleraine, BT52 1SA Tel. 028 70 324342 or e-mail tis@ulster.ac.uk 16th October, 2007 Career Workshop - Clever CV's *** There is no placement class this week to allow you to go to the fair!*** ...don't forget your CV is due tomorrow 23rd October, 2007 Career Workshop - Interviews and Assessments Uncovered 23rd October, 2007 Career Workshop - International Experiences - Go Far, Go Further | ||||||
