Student's Log Book

The Log Book is to;

• provide evidence of experience gained,
• provide evidence of learning achieved, and
• support the preparation of your placement report at the end of your placement.

You should commence your entries in the Log Book at the start of placement. Entries should be made
as frequently as there is something new to report. The Log Book forms part of the overall assessment
of placement and must be submitted along with the student placement report, normally in June. On
each visit the Log Book should be made available for review by the Placement Visitor. Failure to
maintain a satisfactory Log Book will impair the quality of your placement report. Assessment of the
Log Book is made at the end of your placement.

As this is a record of your work and learning experience, it should include

• notes on the work which you have done
• the things which you have observed and learned which can include technical and industrial
  aspects, industrial relations and management practices
• your views and comments on the details you record. Company material may only be included
  provided explicit permission has been given.

You are advised to ensure that details of a technical nature comply with the organisation's policy and
practice on confidentiality.
